Get to know me
I’m Muhammad Maruf Islam, known on the airwaves as S21FIA, an amateur radio operator from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I’ve been licensed since 2023, and ever since, amateur radio has become an exciting part of my life and identity.
My Ham Radio Journey
My interest in radio began unexpectedly while experimenting with long-range drone flying. That spark quickly turned into a full-fledged passion for amateur radio. Today, I explore everything from DX hunting and antenna building to digital modes and field operations.
You’ll often find me active on 20m, 15m, and 10m, and occasionally on 30m when my Inverted-V antenna cooperates. My current station setup includes a home-brew multiband MOXON and a 30m Inverted-V.
I’m also learning CW (Morse Code)—currently at QRS speed. If I struggle to copy you the first time, please be patient and send again; I’m eager to improve!
Operating Practices
I confirm all QSOs through QRZ.com, LoTW, and ClubLog.
Please note: I don’t accept paper QSL cards by post, as many unfortunately get lost in the local system.
Beyond Radio
When I’m not on the airwaves, I enjoy:
RC flying on the field
Motorcycle touring with my saddlebag and tent
Portable adventures where I pack up my rig and operate from hills or remote spots
For me, amateur radio blends perfectly with these hobbies—combining exploration, technical challenges, and the thrill of making connections worldwide.
Career & Expertise
Alongside radio, I am a Fire Safety Engineer and Project Management Professional (PMP) with over a decade of experience. I hold multiple NFPA certifications and specialize in:
Fire protection & hydraulic calculations
Fire alarm & detection systems
Project management consultancy
This technical background often overlaps with my ham projects, especially in antenna design, systems planning, and training workshops.
A Few Milestones
2015 – Present: Over 10 years of work in fire safety engineering
2023: Earned my Radio Amateur License from BTRC
2024: Joined the S21DX AS-140 DXpedition, operating from Dhal Char Island, Bangladesh
